Survivor Series 89 Results

The Thanksgiving table is set, the teams have assembled, let’s see how Survivor Series 1989 carves out…

El Hijos de Lucha Libra vs Team Essence

When Tito Santana finally got his hands on Rick Martel, you could see the fiery anger coming out. Unfortunately for Santana, the target of his aggression wasn’t willing to stick it out and take his lumps, escaping the ring and getting himself counted out. After Dino Bravo was eliminated by Tito Santana, The Fabulous Rougeaus did a good job of working through the the handicap situation. They were able to eliminate Koko B Ware and Marty Jannetty, but after seeing his partner eliminated, Shawn Michaels was a one-man wrecking machine, using superkicks and side-suplexes to singlehandedly eliminate the final two members of the opposition.

Team Rhodes vs The Rude Boys

Rick Rude was smirking ear to ear when Dusty Rhodes, The Hart Foundation and The Blue Blazer saw his enormous mystery partner, a huge, bearded competitor named EARTHQUAKE! Rick Rude goaded Dusty Rhodes into starting the match with him, but the first chance he got, Rude put Dusty into the corner where Haku and Boss Man were waiting to choke and prod him from the outside, and Rude immediately tagged in Earthquake. Between Rude and Earthquake, the duo tore Dusty Rhodes apart, cheating enough to keep the advantage. When Rude forced Earthquake to tag him in after a sit-down splash onto the fallen Rhodes, the behemoth walked back to the locker room while Rude got the pinfall. The Blue Blazer leaped to the challenge to help get his team back on track, and the fast-paced, HIGH ENERGY competitor did a decent job against Rick Rude… until Rude hit a BLATANT low blow, causing the referee to call for his disqualification. That made for an easy task for Big Boss Man to come in and pin The Blue Blazer after making him serve some Hard Time. Bret Hart took the task and worked over Boss Man, getting Anvil involved on a couple occasions, pinning the former law enforcement official after the Hart Attack. King Haku proved to be a tough challenge, pinning Anvil along the way, but Bret Hart was able to get Haku to pass out to the Sharpshooter to get the victory.

The Heenan Family vs The Ultimate Warriors

The early part of the match saw The Brain Busters really go to town, working together nicely to wear down Jim Duggan, who was eliminated by Arn Anderson – but not before he got Tully Blanchard out. Hercules was next as Andre The Giant and Mr. Perfect used a combination of raw power and technical ability to work him over. The Ultimate Warrior got involved and amazingly not only slammed Andre The Giant, but pinned him after a big running splash. The 3-count was close, with Andre ALMOST kicking out, and he argued after he was told he was eliminated. Not letting it go, Andre started pounding on The Ultimate Warrior, tossing him out of the ring and fighting him all the way to the back. The two-on-one advantage proved too much for Jimmy Snuka, who was pushed off the top rope by Mr. Perfect as he was attempting the Snuka Splash, and then once Arn tagged in his partner, the Perfect Plex was all that was needed to get the win for the Heenan Family.

Team Roberts vs Team Savage

To start the match, Randy Savage and his team (Akeem, Bad News Brown and Honky Tonk Man) seemed confident that their opposition was going to simply consist of Jake Roberts and Roddy Piper. Then their faces dropped as the music of the former tag team champions hit and the leather-and-spikes of DEMOLITION walked through the curtain. Honky Tonk Man was the first one to go, followed by Akeem. From there, Savage did great work to take out Ax of DEMOLITION and then Bad News Brown nullified Smash by getting themselves eliminated via count out. Jake Roberts looked like he was doing well against Randy Savage, but Bad News Brown helped him from the outside despite being eliminated, and gave The Macho Man the advantage. Roddy Piper picked up the slack, first putting Savage onto the mat in a heap of trouble, and then getting outside and working over Bad News Brown to keep him from getting involved again. As Savage got back up, he tried to fight Jake Roberts, but Roddy Piper got into the ring behind him, put him into a sleeperhold and eventually dropped to the mat to get Savage to pass out, ending the match.

Hulkamaniacs vs Million Dollar Monsters

It was all Hogan for the first few minutes of the match, single-handedly eliminating Warlord and nearly eliminating Barbarian on his own, getting a bit of help from Beefcake. The Bushwackers gave Hogan a rest on the apron, but Zeus eliminated both of them. From there, Hogan and Zeus went toe-to-toe, and at one point it seemed like Hogan was going to get pinned, but he kicked out, Hulked up, peppered Zeus with clubbing blows, hit the Big Boot and Leg Drop before pinning Zeus. DiBiase battled back, even eliminating Beefcake with the Million Dollar Dream sleeperhold. When faced with an energized Hulk Hogan and the cheating not effective, DiBiase walked off, getting himself counted out and giving Hogan the victory to end the show.
